Lawson not seeking buyout from Rockets: 'I'd rather stay here'
Despite reports indicating Ty Lawson was seeking a buyout from the Houston Rockets, it's highly unlikely an agreement will be made, sources told the Houston Chronicle's Jonathan Feigen.
All players waived by Tuesday will be eligible to join a playoff roster, but if Lawson gets his way, he'll remain with the Rockets for the remainder of the season.
"I'm just happy here," Lawson said Monday. "My role, I'm going to keep playing hard every day. I'd rather stay here.
"Hoping things turn around, we get into the playoffs and make things happen. Up and downs, it's a little frustrating there's always some types of talks. I'm glad to be here. Just going to play hard and see what happens."
Houston is barely holding onto the eighth seed at 29-30, one season after advancing all the way to the Western Conference Finals after winning 56 games. Acquiring Lawson in an offseason trade with the Denver Nuggets was designed to give James Harden a running mate who could act as a facilitator, as well as a playmarker.
That trade has blown up in Houston's face, though, with Lawson's role slowly sliding from a starter at the beginning of the season, to a reserve where minutes are hard to come by.
In 52 appearances, Lawson is averaging 5.9 points and 3.4 assists on 38.8 percent shooting in 22.5 minutes.
