Kerr says resting players will 'take precedence' over breaking Bulls' record
Sitting at 55-5 on the season, the Golden State Warriors have put themselves in a valid position to surpass the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls' 72-win campaign.
While head coach Steve Kerr would be happy to break his former team's record, the Warriors bench boss is more concerned with ensuring his players are healthy come playoff time.
"Resting, that will take precedence," Kerr said to Yahoo's Marc J. Spears. "We will rest guys if they need it before we will go for any kind of streak or record, that's for sure."
While Warriors fans may be disappointed to hear the news, Golden State's players - including Steph Curry - expected Kerr to take a more conservative approach.
"That is how I assumed he would handle it," Curry said.
With 22 games left on the schedule, the Warriors still have five back-to-backs to end the season - all contests Kerr may look to rest his star players.
"In the end, it's still the title that matters the most," Kerr added. "Having said that, this team, one of the reasons they are special is they take so much joy in the process of each game. They don't talk much about records. But our guys have a lot of fun from one night to the next."
