Fantasy Spotlight: Alex Rodriguez
Throughout the month of March, theScore examines hitters who represent their team's most intriguing fantasy plays. This edition focuses on New York Yankees designated hitter Alex Rodriguez.
2015 in Review: 620 PA, .250/.356/.486, 83 R, 33 HR, 86 RBI, 4 SB
The Good: Rodriguez clearly demonstrated he still has the power in 2015. While his batting average fell off considerably in the second half of the season, he averaged 0.22 home runs per game in each unofficial half. He's projected to hit fifth in the Yankees' order, providing plenty of RBI opportunities.
The Bad: After a stellar start to his major league return, Rodriguez's second half deteriorated considerably aside from the power numbers. After posting a .278 batting average prior to the All-Star break, he hit just .216 in the second half. His runs and RBIs declined accordingly.
Best Comparison: Los Angeles Angels 1B Albert Pujols
What's in Store: 2015's 33 home runs are likely unrepeatable, but Rodriguez can be considered a near lock for 20-plus dingers. He slightly favors left-handed pitching, but he still held his own against righties. He'll be an everyday player in American League play when healthy, setting up 70-80 runs and RBIs.
Draft Outlook: While not the free-agent bargain he was following 2015 drafts, Rodriguez is currently being selected in the latter rounds of standard, mixed leagues. The Yankees have an improved lineup entering 2016, providing a boost for their DH. Rodriguez has mid-round power at a late-round price.
