Monday's Catcher Value Rankings
Here are the catcher value rankings for Monday, April 4:
Value Rankings

Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Buster Posey (SF) | at MIL | 9 |
Devin Mesoraco (CIN) | vs. PHI | 8 |
Matt Wieters (BAL) | vs. MIN | 8 |
Posey is a great cash-game option on Opening Day. The hitter-friendly confines of Miller Park and weak opposing pitching could lead to the type of box score that helps in any format. Expect high ownership.
Look for Mesoraco to be under-owned after a 2015 season lost to injury, with some injury concerns following him out of Spring Training. Still, the Reds have said that their backstop is ready to go on Monday, and will be facing one of the weaker starting pitchers on the slate in Jeremy Hellickson. Mesoraco is a solid tournament option.
Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Kyle Schwarber (CHC) | at LAA | 7 |
Jonathan Lucroy (MIL) | vs. SF | 6 |
Welington Castillo (ARI) | vs. COL | 5 |
Robinson Chirinos (TEX) | vs. SEA | 5 |
Miguel Montero (CHC) | at LAA | 5 |
Nick Hundley (COL) | at ARI | 4 |
Hank Conger (TB) | vs. TOR | 4 |
Schwarber is boom-or-bust, so limit his exposure in cash games. The Cubs' lineup has the potential to be very potent, so look for the slugger to take advantage of having men on base in front of him.
Over the past three seasons, Lucroy has hit .294 against lefties and .281 against righties, so he's essentially split-proof. Madison Bumgarner is obviously a daunting matchup, but hitting behind OF Ryan Braun and in front of 1B Chris Carter gives the Brewers' catcher the potential for high run and RBI totals.
Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Stephen Vogt (OAK) | vs. CWS | 3 |
Chris Iannetta (SEA) | at TEX | 3 |
Wilson Ramos (WAS) | at ATL | 3 |
A.J. Pierzynski (ATL) | vs. WAS | 2 |
Carlos Ruiz (PHI) | at CIN | 2 |
Derek Norris (SD) | vs. LAD | 2 |
A.J. Ellis (LAD) | at SD | 2 |
Kurt Suzuki (MIN) | at BAL | 1 |
Alex Avila (CWS) | at OAK | 1 |
Josh Thole (TOR) | at TB | 1 |
Norris may be an established name, but the only name that matters in San Diego will be Clayton Kershaw. All bets are off with the former Cy Young-winner and MVP toeing rubber.
