Jaguars' Robinson unharmed after reportedly falling asleep at wheel
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson announced Tuesday that he was involved in a single-car accident on Saturday night, but said he and the other passengers in the vehicle walked away unharmed.
Robinson was asleep behind the wheel when police found his car inside a pond, according to a report obtained by Joe Daraskevich of Jacksonville.com. The officers woke Robinson and his passenger up, and decided no DUI charge was warranted.
After being awoken, Robinson thought he was still on the road, and needed to be coerced to leave his vehicle. He exited via the passenger's side, and police conducted a sobriety test, which revealed that he wasn't under the influence.
The 25-year-old released the following statement:
The Jaguars also released a statement about the incident, saying: "The team is aware that running back Denard Robinson was involved in a single-car accident over the weekend and is thankful that nobody was injured."
After a relatively productive 2014 campaign, the former fifth-round pick struggled to carve out a role in the Jaguars' offense last season, rushing for only 266 yards and catching 21 passes.
With Jacksonville adding Chris Ivory in free agency and T.J. Yeldon coming off an impressive rookie year, Robinson's opportunities continue to dwindle.
