Report: Bills' Watkins likely to require season-ending foot surgery

Recurring foot issues may soon bring Sammy Watkins' season to an early end.

The Buffalo Bills wide receiver is set to meet with Dr. Robert Anderson in North Carolina this week to determine whether he'll need a second surgery, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

While there still appears to be some hope for a some positive results, the reported belief heading into the evaluation is that Watkins will indeed require an additional procedure that would keep him out for the rest of the year.

Officially placed on injured reserve Friday after battling soreness for the first month of the season, Watkins is already set to miss the next eight weeks of action.

A second surgery this year following the initial repair of a broken bone in May would instead have Watkins targeting a return at some point during offseason activities.

The former first-round pick managed just six receptions for 63 yards in two games before being forced to sit out Week 3. Buffalo will turn to Robert Woods as its top receiver moving forward, while Marquise Goodwin and Greg Salas should take on more substantial complementary roles.
