Report: Stafford has torn ligaments in middle finger, will play with glove
Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford dislocated and tore ligaments in the middle finger of his throwing hand during Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears, and will need to wear a glove for the remainder of the season, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Stafford reportedly has no control over the top of his finger, which is now bent downward at a 90-degree angle.
The injury normally requires some missed time, but Stafford is determined to play through it and lead Detroit to the NFC North title, Schefter added.
Stafford played with the glove for most of the game against the Bears after sustaining the injury in the first quarter, and said it affected his ability to throw properly.
"Was just trying to figure out what was the best way to manage it," Stafford said. "You know, the training-room guys, the equipment staff, everybody did a great job. Got me all ready to go, and then I just, I haven't thrown with one in a long time. Trying to get the feel back was a little difficult."
Stafford fought through the injury and led the Lions to a comeback win, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to register eight fourth-quarter comebacks in a single season.
