Woman accused of ripping off Ricky Williams for millions arrested
A Houston woman who allegedly stole millions from former NFL running back Ricky Williams and three other former pro athletes was arrested Friday in New Orleans, federal authorities told Ken Daley of The Times-Picayune.
Fifty-eight-year-old Peggy Ann Fulford, was charged with wire fraud, mail fraud, interstate transportation of stolen property, and money laundering.
Fulford had falsely told Williams and her other victims she was Harvard educated and had made millions on Wall Street as a financial advisor and money manager of real estate deals. She offered to manage the former athletes' money with no fee, claiming she "just wanted to protect them," according to the indictment.
If convicted, Fulford faces between 10 and 20 years in federal prison. Williams and his wife are reportedly seeking between $2 million and $4 million.
The former Heisman trophy winner who played for the New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, and Baltimore Ravens in his career is the only one of the alleged victims to have his name released.
