Sherman wants to stay in Seattle, but would understand trade
Richard Sherman gets it.
The Seattle Seahawks cornerback has recently been rumored to be a potential trade target for several teams, and while his coach and general manager said they aren't actively shopping Sherman, they've admitted they'll listen to trade offers.
Sherman would rather not leave the only pro team he's played for, but he understands the circumstances.
"I wouldn't want to leave this city and my guys, but understand it's a business, and organizational philosophies change," Sherman told Gee Scott of 710 ESPN Seattle radio Thursday.
The 29-year-old carries a hefty $13.6-million cap hit next season and a $13.2-million hit in 2018, making it difficult for a team to acquire his salary, but he is an elite cornerback.
At least one of Sherman's teammates blasted the potential move.
"Unless (the Seahawks) want this run to be over with, you wouldn't entertain the thought of trading Sherm," an anonymous Seahawks player said, according to Scott.
Sherman has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last four seasons, and was named NFC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014.
