The Kansas City Chiefs traded up to select Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 28th overall.

The Chiefs sent their 32nd, 95th (third round), and 221st (seventh round) overall picks to the Buffalo Bills for the 28th, 133rd (fourth round), and 248th (seventh round) overall selections.

Worthy can flat-out fly. He broke the 40-yard dash NFL combine record by clocking in with a 4.21 time.

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes reacted to the pick on social media.

Worthy talked about his excitement to join the reigning Super Bowl champions.

"I've been saying it since the beginning of the year," the speedster said, according to Arrowhead Pride's Pete Sweeney. "Everybody thought the NFL was never going to let the Chiefs get to me. But I'm here. I'm excited, man, just to be able to play with Pat. Seeing the success that Tyreek Hill had in this offense, I feel like it will be amazing."

The former Longhorn continued to sing Mahomes' praises, calling him "probably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time" and saying that "everybody's dream is to play with" the two-time MVP.

Worthy racked up 75 catches for a team-leading 1,014 yards and five touchdowns last season.

Pre-draft profile

Worthy is undersized with a very slim build. But that shouldn't be as big of a risk in 2024 considering his talent. The Texas product is a gamebreaker-esque talent with his 4.21 speed. He can take the top off any secondary and is always a threat to go the distance. His only question mark will be his ability to handle NFL-quality press coverage. Worthy will get his share of manufactured touches due to his build, but that isn't a bad thing. This is a player you want to get the ball to thanks to his home-run speed and yards-after-the-catch ability.
