Jaguars offensive coordinator: Toby Gerhart will be our workhorse
Jacksonville Jaguars fans and fantasy football enthusiasts take note: Toby Gerhart is going to get plenty of touches this season.
Offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch has big plans for Gerhart, who signed with the club in the offseason after long-time Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew took his talents to Oakland.
"Toby has the ability to do it all," Fisch told the Florida Times-Union. "He can catch it well. He can pass protect well, and he's going to be in the game a lot - third down, base downs, short-yardage, passing downs."
Fisch is hoping the 27-year-old is up to the challenge. Gerhart has started just six games over his career, eclipsing the 100-carry attempt mark once (2011) in four seasons in the league.
Without the high-mileage of most starting running backs in the league, Gerhart will be expected to carry the load for a young Jaguars offense.
"Toby will be our workhouse," Fisch said.
Gerhart ran for 283 yards on 36 carries, good for an average of 7.9 per attempts, with the Minnesota Vikings last season.
