Report: Packers to retire Brett Favre's No. 4, induct him into team's Hall of Fame
Nearly six years after Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers split on acrimonious terms, the two sides are reuniting to make a special announcement Monday. According to ESPN it will be to announce Favre's entrance into the Packers' Hall of Fame.
Green Bay will also retire Favre's legendary No. 4 jersey, likely at some point during the upcoming season. He will enter the Packers' Hall of Fame during the summer next year; induction ceremonies are held annually in July.
Favre played for the Packers from 1992-2008, is the franchise's all-time leader in nearly all passing categories and took Green Bay to the Super Bowl twice, including a victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI.
The relationship was fractured though by Favre's frequent changes of heart when it came to his retirement. Eventually the Packers selected Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback and traded Favre to the New York Jets. Favre spent one season in New York and then closed out his career playing two more years for the Packers division rival, the Minnesota Vikings.
The announcement will be made Monday from Lambeau Field at 1:30 p.m. local time. Favre will not be on hand but will speak at the event over the telephone.
