Browns' Johnny Manziel solid in preseason debut
All eyes were on Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel on Saturday night as he made his NFL debut against the Detroit Lions, and he didn't disappoint.
Manziel entered the game with 7:32 remaining in the second quarter, completing a six-yard pass on his first pro play.
Here's how Twitter reacted when Johnny Football took the field.
There was a brief moment of panic in the third quarter when Manziel appeared to injure his ribs, but he was able to re-enter the game after being tended to by the Browns' medical staff.
Soon after, Manziel had one of his biggest plays of the night, running for a 16-yard gain on third-and-eight.
Manziel was relieved by Tyler Thigpen with just over 11 minutes remaining the fourth quarter after completing 7-of-11 passes for 63 yards and rushing for 27 yards on six carries.
Brian Hoyer, meanwhile, went 6-of-14 for 92 yards.
"We kind of killed ourselves with some things," Manziel said after the game, via ESPN.com. "There are definitely a couple reads I would like to take back and a few throws, but for the most part it's good to get out there and play against someone else."
NFL Network's Dan Hellie reported earlier Saturday that Manziel is expected to start the Browns' second preseason game against the Washington Redskins, but head coach Mike Pettine indicated otherwise.
"That decision hasn't been made yet," Pettine said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
