Eagles' McCoy says leaving 20-cent tip was a 'statement'

A story about Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy leaving a 20-cent tip for a waiter made the rounds this week.

On Thursday, McCoy confirmed that he did indeed leave the paltry tip and with good reason.

"I tip on my service," McCoy said, via ESPN.com. "There's a difference between good service and bad service and just having a bad day. There's a big difference between just being rude and disrespectful. That's how that went."

McCoy wanted to make sure the restaurant knew it was him that left the tip.

"A 20-cent tip is kind of a statement," McCoy said. "You can't disrespect somebody and expect them to tip you. I don't care who the person is. That's why I left my card, so they could see my name."

The running back signed a five-year extension worth $45 million with the Eagles in 2012, but it's clear McCoy will still make you earn your tip when dining at your establishment.
