Fantasy: Eagles rookie Jordan Matthews breaks out with a pair of 1st-half TDs
Philadelphia Eagles rookie receiver Jordan Matthews had a coming out party Sunday, catching his first two touchdown passes as a pro in the first half of the Eagles' game against the Washington Redskins.
The Eagles used a second-round pick to select the 6-foot-3, 212-pound Vanderbilt. He drew praise from his coaches at training camp for his hard work and preparation.
Matthews doesn't have elite athleticism, but he does a lot of things very well. The Eagles mostly use him in the slot, where his size makes him a difficult matchup for nickelbacks to handle.
Slot receivers don't typically carry a lot of fantasy value, but the Eagles offense isn't a typical NFL offense. Chip Kelly runs enough plays to support the fantasy value of multiple players, and neither Jeremy Maclin or Riley Copper is a prototypical No. 1 receiver who commands a high volume of targets.
Look for Matthews to be a very hot name on the waiver wire this week. It's not a stretch to suggest he could finish the season as the Eagles' top-scoring receiver.
