Vikings' Greenway out Sunday vs. Falcons, ending ironman streak

Denny Medley / USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway's streak of consecutive games played will end at 115.

The Vikings officially ruled out Greenway for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday afternoon. The veteran linebacker will be on the sidelines Sunday for the first time since tearing his ACL in his 2007 rookie season.

Playing through broken bones is nothing new for the 31-year-old, who also has a broken hand. The pain of the broken rib, however, is too much to work through in such a high-contact position.

“It’s fairly indescribable, to be honest with you,” Greenway said to the Star-Tribune after practice. “Anybody who’s had a (broken) rib before, much respect.”

Gerald Hodges is expected to start in his place at linebacker.
