Lions' Calvin Johnson admits he's still bothered by ankle injury, after seeing limited snaps

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell has said previously that wide receiver Calvin Johnson at 90 percent is better than many players at full strength.

Asked after Detroit's 24-17 win on Sunday over the New York Jets if he is currently at 90 percent, Johnson laughed and said "Nah," via ESPN.

Johnson was limited versus the Jets after entering the weekend listed as questionable as he deals with an ankle injury that he suffered against the Green Bay Packers last week.

Johnson was not often on the field for consecutive plays Sunday and received only two targets, catching both for 12 yards.

“Went out there. It was tough but I figured from moving around (on Saturday) that I’d be able to get on the field a little bit,” Johnson said. “It’s good to be out there with the fellas. It sucks to be on the sideline and not be able to play at all. It sucks to have injuries, too, but that’s just part of the game.”

Despite his ineffective performance, Caldwell believes Johnson still had a positive impact on the game.

“They still had to account for him,” Caldwell said. “We might not have done all of the things that we normally do with him. We just tried to make certain we stayed within the framework of what he could do physically.”

Johnson hopes his ankle will continue to improve the way it did this past week.

“Things have gotten better all week,” Johnson said. “It was a struggle at first and as the week progressed it got better and better and expect the same thing this week.”
