Rams name Austin Davis new starting quarterback

Jasen Vinlove / USA TODAY Sports

St. Louis Rams quarterback Austin Davis has impressed in three appearances in relief of the injured Shaun Hill this season, so the Rams rewarded him by naming him the team's new starter moving forward.

Head coach Jeff Fisher initially indicated Hill would regain the starting job upon returning to health, but it's not a surprise to see him backtrack here. Davis is 68-of-94 for 754 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in two starts and one relief appearance this season. The 25-year-old gives the franchise some hope for the future where, thanks to injuries to Sam Bradford, there has been very little in recent seasons.

The Rams will likely spend the rest of the season evaluating whether Davis is a long-term option for the team at quarterback. With Bradford's contract set to expire after the 2015 season, the Rams have some big questions to answer at the position.
