Report: Jim Harbaugh wants to remain in NFL, will decide on Michigan offer

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh prefers to remain an NFL coach, rather than move to the college ranks, and will reportedly wait until the NFL season ends before deciding his next move.

Harbaugh's family and friends are encouraging him to accept a blockbuster offer from the University of Michigan to become head coach, but Harbaugh wants to wait to see what NFL head coaching jobs become available before responding to the offer, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

It's a foregone conclusion Harbaugh and the 49ers will part ways at the conclusion of the season.

Schefter reports Harbaugh wants to decide on his next job as quickly as possible after the 49ers' season concludes and he speaks to players on Monday, Dec. 29.

Michigan is reportedly offering Harbaugh $8 million per year over a six-year term. It's extremely rare for NFL coaches to be compensated at that level.
