Pete Carroll confirms Earl Thomas will play in Super Bowl

Steven Bisig / USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas will play in Super Bowl XLIX with a shoulder injury.

Thomas dislocated his shoulder during the NFC Championship Game and was a limited participant in practice Friday, but his coach is confident he'll be good to go next Sunday.

"Earl's going to be fine for next week,” Pete Carroll said. "It's going to take him all the way to game time. We'll keep him from getting banged. But he'll be fine by game time."

Thomas is the anchor of the Seahawks' defense and will be a vital part of their attempt to curtail the Patriots' potent passing game.
