Marcus Mariota showed off his world-class athleticism Saturday, putting together the best 40-yard dash time of any quarterback. The former Heisman Trophy winner's top-end speed may have convinced personnel that he'd be an ideal fit for their offense.
Brett Hundley would likely have been a first-round selection had he entered the draft last year, and he may ascend into the first round after putting together a strong sprint.
Nick Marshall ran before Saturday's events began, as teams requested he participate in the combine as a defensive back. Marshall led Auburn to a National Championship runner-up finish two seasons ago.
Other Notable Performances
- Bryce Petty, Baylor - 4.87 sec.
- Jameis Winston, Florida State - 4.97 sec.
Jameis Winston struggled in both of his sprints, appearing somewhat lethargic as he ran downfield. Although Winston isn't known to be a strong runner, it was the first sign of weakness in an otherwise excellent start to the weekend.
Bryce Petty is slated to be a second-round pick, but his 4.87 time will likely be viewed as disappointing. Petty operated out of the same offense that bred Robert Griffin III at Baylor.
