Steelers' Antonio Brown says absence from workouts is because of newborn
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown chose not to show up for voluntary workouts this week, sparking speculation he's seeking a new contract.
Brown, the NFL's leading receiver last season, is due to be paid $6 million this year, and there's no doubt he's underpaid. That said, the Steelers have a long-standing policy of not renegotiating contracts with multiple years remaining, and Brown is signed through 2017.
Brown tried his best to settle down fans wary of a protracted holdout Wednesday, tweeting an explanation for his absence:
Just enjoying my new born Ali can not wait to get back with my teammates !

While it's notable Brown didn't say he plans to show up for mandatory offseason activities in May, it wouldn't be fair to call what he's doing a holdout. After all, voluntary workouts are voluntary. If he's there in May, all will be forgiven and forgotten.
