The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed safety D.J. Swearinger off waivers, according to multiple reports.
Swearinger was released by the Houston Texans on Monday after two seasons with the team.
The Buccaneers put their first-overall waiver claim to good use by signing the former second-round pick. It's an obvious effort to bolster the league's fifth-worst passing defense in 2014.
Swearinger fell out of favor with the Texans after reportedly refusing to play special teams for head coach Bill O'Brien.
The Bucs' also claimed linebacker Khaseem Greene, a former fourth-round pick waived by the Chicago Bears, and cut safety M.D. Jennings in a corresponding roster move.
