Jets spoke to free agent Evan Mathis' agent

The New York Jets are among the teams that have kicked the tires on free-agent guard Evan Mathis.

General manager Mike Maccagnan revealed Saturday that the team has spoken to Mathis' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, but gave the indication that his price tag is too steep right now.

The Miami Dolphins are also believed to have shown interest in Mathis, who was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on June 11.

Mathis, for his part, doesn't appear to be in a rush to reach a deal. He told CBS Sports Radio in mid-July that his options weren't as clear as they would be "in a week or two."
