The New England Patriots won't have running back LeGarrette Blount for their season-opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it sounds like they won't have Jonas Gray either.
The Patriots are planning to move on from Gray, ESPN's Field Yates reports. A release appears likely if the Patriots can't find a trade partner.
Gray, a 2012 UDFA who joined the Patriots before the 2014 season, endured a rollercoaster campaign that saw him rush for 201 yards and four touchdowns in Week 11 before being benched the following week for lateness.
Gray's release likely ensures Travaris Cadet will earn a spot on the Patriots' final roster. Dion Lewis, James White, and Brandon Bolden are also in the mix for carries behind Blount.
