Report: Jets inquired about Redskins' Kirk Cousins after Geno Smith injury

The New York Jets were left scrambling after losing quarterback Geno Smith to a broken jaw and turned to the free-agent market in an effort to find a capable backup for Ryan Fitzpatrick.
They also reportedly tried to a swing a trade for a quarterback.
Not knowing how long Smith would be out initially, the Jets called the Washington Redskins about trading for quarterback Kirk Cousins, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Washington wouldn't discuss trading Cousins, though, according to Rapoport.
Cousins has since been elevated to the Redskins' starter, which may explain why the team balked at a trade. Smith, meanwhile, is practicing again after being cleared for minimal physical activity.
