The Dallas Cowboys placed quarterback Tony Romo on the injured reserve/designated to return list on Tuesday.
The move frees up a roster spot for the Cowboys, but will force Romo to miss a minimum of eight weeks.
The move fits the expectation for Romo's return. If all goes according to plan, he will be healed and back on the field in mid- to late November.
Brandon Weeden is expected to get the first crack at the Cowboys' starting job in Romo's absence. His goal will be to keep the team above water until Romo and Dez Bryant return for the stretch run.
