Saints CB Porter has MCL sprain

Metairie, LA (Sports Network) - New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton announced starting cornerback Tracy Porter sprained his left medial collateral ligament in Sunday's victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Porter suffered the injury when he was accidentally leg-whipped by teammate Usama Young in the third quarter.

"The good news is that he did not suffer an injury to his ACL," Payton said in Monday's press conference. "The injury to his knee was to the MCL. It's an injury that will not require surgery."

Payton also said the second-year player is expected to return to the field this season but is out indefinitely.

Porter has recorded 43 tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumbles this season, playing every game.
