Sabres' Lehner adds Trump sticker to mask for Military Appreciation Night
Robin Lehner is wading into political waters with his latest goalie mask.
The Buffalo Sabres goaltender has added a 'Trump' sticker and a small photo of the president-elect on a military-themed mask for the team's Military Appreciation Night on Friday.
"Even though I'm not American, I appreciate what the military and all these guys do," Lehner said, per Jonah Javad of WGR. "I've got a little support for my man Trump here."
According to Amy Moritz of the Buffalo News, Lehner - a native of Sweden - says he admires Trump, while head coach Dan Bylsma defended the goalie's right to style his mask however he sees fit.
"It's his right to put that on there and he's got other things on there as well that he's honoring and paying tribute to. He's got Trump's name on the back there so that's his right to do so."
As mentioned above, the mask may be auctioned off after the game, along with special camouflage jerseys that will be worn by the Sabres during warmups.
