The Ottawa Senators have retained scoring forward Milan Michalek, signing the long-time Senators forward to a three-year, $12 million contract, the club announced Tuesday.

Milan Michalek had been a member of the Ottawa Senators since being acquired in the Dany Heatley deal in 2009. Coming off knee surgery, the former first-round pick in 2003 recorded 17 goals and 39 points in 82 games for the Sens in 2013-14. His best season came back in 2011-12, when he recorded 35 goals in 77 games. With the Sens all but out of playoff contention, Michalek ended last season with just one point in the final six games, but did score six of his 17 in March.
