Report: Wild will not make offer to UFA Niskanen; Lightning, Capitals possible landing spots
Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports
According to Michael Russo of the StarTribune, the Minnesota Wild are out on free-agent defenseman Matt Niskanen and will not offer him a contract based on his asking price.
The defenseman wants a seven-year contract, a deal the Wild are not willing to take him up on.
From Russo:
The Wild won't make an offer. Niskanen has the opportunity to sign a six- or seven-year deal deal today and the Wild's just not comfortable signing Niskanen to a contract that long.
Russo also reports that the Tampa Bay Lightning and Washington Capitals seem like sensible landing spots for Niskanen.
