Report: Maple Leafs sign Petri Kontiola to 1-year contract
The Toronto Maple Leafs added some depth up the middle, signing Finnish centerman Petri Kontiola to a one-year deal worth $1.1-million, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.
A seventh-round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2004, Kontiola spent most of his time in North America plying is trade in the AHL, making a brief 12-game appearance with the Blackhawks in 2007-08 (where he recorded five assists).
Following his disappointing stint in the NHL, Kontiola took his talents to the KHL, amassing 175 points in five seasons split between Mettallurg Magnitogorsk and Traktor.
