Blue Jackets sign Brandon Dubinsky to 6-year contract extension
The Columbus Blue Jackets locked up an important part of their future on Friday, signing forward Brandon Dubinsky to a six-year contract extension.
“Brandon brings tenacity and determination to our team every time he takes the ice and he’s been an integral part of our growth and success over the past two years,” Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen told the team's official website. “Thanks to the commitment and support of our ownership group, we are excited that Brandon will continue to be an important part of the Blue Jackets family for many years to come.”
The 28-year-old Dubinsky was acquired by the Blue Jackets in 2012 as part of the deal that landed Rick Nash with the New York Rangers.
Dubinsky proved himself to be an integral part of the Blue Jackets' top-six forward group, notching 16 goals and finishing third on the team in scoring with 50 points.
Now that he's locked up Dubinsky long-term, Kekalainen still faces the tough task of signing emerging star (and restricted free agent) Ryan Johansen.
