Sidney Crosby's injury and subsequent return to game action helped shroud Evgeni Malkin's health concerns, but the focus has shifted to No. 71 with the season opener just a week away.

Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said Tuesday that "the next few days" are vital in determining whether Malkin starts the season on the ice or in the press box, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The star center reportedly suffered an undisclosed injury while preparing for training camp at an unofficial skate with teammates. He hasn't yet been approved to skate, or engage in any physical activity.
