Toronto Maple Leafs forward Carter Ashton has been suspended for 20 games for violating the terms of the NHL's performance enhancing substances program.
Ashton said the violation was a result of the use of an inhaler to treat an asthmatic spasm.
Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan says the club supports the league's decision and will not comment any further.
Ashton, who appeared in three games this season for the Maple Leafs, does not plan on appealing the suspension.
Based on his average annual salary, Ashton will forfeit $169,185 over the course of the suspension.
