The Vancouver Canucks locked up 25-year-old defenseman Chris Tanev for five more years after both sides agreed to an extension Tuesday.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported that the extension is worth $4.45 million annually.
Canucks general manager Jim Benning had the following to say about the young defenseman:
Chris has developed into an excellent NHL defenseman and is an extremely important part of our team.
He’s a player you want on the ice in the most critical points of a game and we’re excited about having him with our group as we continue to play to win today, with an eye to the future.
Tanev is playing in his fifth season for the Canucks, registering two goals and 14 assists in 60 games so far this season.
