Former Capitals GM McPhee reportedly among 4 candidates for Maple Leafs job
Former Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee is reportedly among the candidates to be hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Tampa Bay Lightning assistant GM Julien Brisebois, Los Angeles Kings vice-president of hockey operations Mike Futa and New York Rangers assistant GM Jeff Gorton round out a quartet of candidates that Sportsnet's Damien Cox reported on Hockey Night in Canada's Saturday Headlines segment.
McPhee has reportedly been in contact with the Maple Leafs.
"He's over at the World Championship in Prague (and) I think there's been some contact between him and the Leafs over there," Cox said.
During Saturday's segment, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman added that McPhee has also been interviewed by the Boston Bruins.
The Maple Leafs fired GM Dave Nonis, head coach Peter Horachek and a multitude of scouts on April 12.
The Capitals declined to renew McPhee's contract in April 2014 after 17 years as the team's GM.
The Bruins fired Peter Chiarelli last month after the club missed the playoffs by two points.
