Report: Todd Nelson could join Oilers' coaching staff alongside Todd McLellan
Todd Nelson's options may be dwindling, but some are still floating on the surface.
The 46-year-old coach, who took over as interim bench boss for the Edmonton Oilers last season after the franchise fired Dallas Eakins, could join Todd McLellan's staff, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
"I'm told there has been some discussion ... and he could be back on the Oilers' bench helping Todd McLellan," said Dreger on the Insider Trading segment.
Nelson, who earned a record of 17-25-9 in his time as head coach of the Oilers, could also make a return to the AHL, where he's had success and is still under contract.
"Todd Nelson is looking at some options; coaching options in the American Hockey League," said Dreger. "He'd go back there. He was a very successful coach with Oklahoma City, which was the Edmonton Oilers' farm club. He still has three years remaining on his AHL contract with Edmonton."
In four seasons with Oklahoma City, Nelson amassed a record of 161-105-42.
