Maple Leafs open to trading 4th overall pick if it 'made sense'
The Toronto Maple Leafs may not be the fourth team announcing their draft selection in three weeks time.
The Maple Leafs hold the fourth-overall selection in the draft, and though the pick is sure to bring in an elite talent, interim general manager Kyle Dubas said the team would be willing to part with it.
"It’s something we would definitely look at,” Dubas told Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star. “If someone else was adamant about a player, we’re pretty comfortable with the players in that cluster.
"We need to be acquiring as many draft pick assets as we can, as many prospects as we can. If there was something that made sense, we’d be open to listening and having some thorough discussions on the fourth pick."
The Maple Leafs' fellow interim co-GM, Mark Hunter, echoed Dubas, saying the team has received interest from other clubs.
"Everyone is feeling us out,” said Hunter. “They’re talking to Brendan Shanahan, too. There’s lots of talk going on. Nothing concrete."
Erie Otters center Dylan Strome and London Knights winger Mitchell Marner are expected to be available at the fourth selection, and either one would meet the needs of the Maple Leafs if they decide to head down that road.
