Report: Rangers turned down pair of 2nd-round draft picks for Cam Talbot
Cam Talbot won't come cheap.
The New York Rangers are certainly listening to trade offers on their highly coveted backup goalie, however, with the Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, and San Jose Sharks believed to be very much in the mix.
Speaking Monday on 1260 Radio in Edmonton, Darren Dreger of TSN reported the Rangers weren't willing to settle for a pair of relatively high draft picks.
I'm told that there was a team that offered two second-round picks for Cam Talbot and that didn't close the deal. So (general manager Glen) Sather and (assistant GM) Jeff Gorton and management types of the New York Rangers are still on a bit of a fishing expedition.
The Rangers recognize that he's a valuable piece. He's got another year left at $1.45 million. He's proven that he can be an excellent 1A goaltender. He came in long term in place of Henrik Lundqvist last season, who had some injury issues, obviously. And he proved that it appears he's ready to be a starter.
Talbot has 57 total NHL appearances on his resume, 36 of which came this past season.
Since joining the Rangers in 2013, he's posted a record of 33-15-5, with a .931 save percentage and eight shutouts.
While not the biggest sample size, it's clearly enough to warrant serious consideration - and a healthy price tag for the 27-year-old on the trade market.
