While a number of teams have reportedly been eyeing the Arizona Coyotes' No. 3 pick in the NHL Entry Draft, the Vancouver Canucks are intrigued by the later rounds.
Canucks general manager Jim Benning met with the media Thursday ahead of Friday's draft and made it clear that he is actively pursuing a pick in the second or third round.
"We like the second-round depth this year, it's one of those years and we're trying to get in on that," Benning told reporters.
The Canucks hold the 23rd pick in the draft and don't choose again until the fourth round (114th).
Rumors have been swirling that the Canucks are shopping one of their goaltenders and Benning didn't hold back, insisting one of either Eddie Lack or Jakob Markstrom could be dealt as early as Thursday evening.
Either of the two backups could help the team acquire that very pick they are seeking.
