Report: Penguins targeting forwards including Maple Leafs' Kessel

The Pittsburgh Penguins may shake the foundation of the NHL with a big move.

After barely getting into the playoffs and losing to the New York Rangers in the first round of the postseason, the Penguins are looking to add offensive reinforcements and one name on their list of targets is Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel, according to Sportsnet's Damien Cox.

Kessel, 27, would add extra firepower to a Penguins' lineup that already features Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Patric Hornqvist, and Chris Kunitz.

The Maple Leafs winger scored 25 goals and added 36 assists in 82 games for Toronto and is set to earn $10 million next season with a cap hit of $8 million.

Cox speculates that "everybody" is interested in the Penguins' young defense corps, which includes Olli Maatta, Derrick Pouliot, Brian Dumoulin, and Scott Harrington.
