The ruling is in.

The National Hockey League’s arbitrator has awarded Ottawa Senators forward Alex Chiasson a one-year contract worth $1.2 million, the club announced Sunday.

"The arbitration process went as we expected - we had the opportunity to make our case, as did Alex’s group," said Senators general manager Bryan Murray. "In our opinion, both sides made fair, detailed arguments and we are satisfied with the ruling of the arbitrator. We are happy to have Alex under contract and anticipate that he will be a productive player for us this season. Alex will be given the chance to have an important role in the team’s success."

The arbitrator appears to have leaned more closely towards the team, as the Senators were reported to be offering $1 million in advance of the hearing, while Chiasson was seeking $2.475 million.

Chiasson, 24, scored 11 goals and added 15 assists with 105 shots and a 50.86 Corsi For percentage at even strength in 76 regular-season games last season.

A second-round pick of the Dallas Stars in 2009, Chiasson came to Ottawa as part of the Jason Spezza trade last summer.
