The Pittsburgh Penguins have added depth through center ice, signing veteran pivot Matt Cullen to a one-year deal worth $800,000, the team announced Thursday.

A member of general manager Jim Rutherford's Stanley Cup-winning roster with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, Cullen spent the last two seasons with the Nashville Predators, contributing 64 points in 139 games.

Entering his 18th season, the journeyman has also previously worn the colors of the Anaheim (Mighty) Ducks, Florida Panthers, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, and Minnesota Wild.

Cullen has 1,212 games worth of tread on his NHL career, and 626 points.

He'll compete to center the Penguins' fourth line, slotting behind Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Nick Bonino.
