Therrien: lack of offense not an issue for Canadiens heading into '15-16
The Montreal Canadiens may have relied heavily on Carey Price last season, but that doesn't mean it's time to worry about their offense.
The team finished 20th in the league last season with a 2.61 goals per game, and though they were in the bottom third of the league in that stat, head coach Michel Therrien believes it's all about perspective.
"We might have struggled on offense, but people forget that we scored just eight goals less than the Chicago Blackhawks during the regular season last year," Therrien told Canadiens.com. "Eight goals less over 82 games isn't a lot."
The Canadiens made very few moves in the offseason to address the team's needs for goal scoring, but Therrien believes the signing of Alexander Semin could be a valuable addition to the lineup.
"When we analyzed our group, we thought he fit what we needed," Therrien said. "He's a guy who can score. He's a guy who can make plays. He's proven in the past that he can contribute to the success of a team offensively. We see it as a win-win situation for both us and for him."
If all else fails, the Canadiens can at least head into next season knowing they had the league's lowest goals-against average last season.
