Organizers hopeful Las Vegas expansion won't impact Kings' Frozen Fury series

The future of the Los Angeles Kings' Frozen Fury series shouldn't be effected by a potential expansion franchise coming to Las Vegas.

The Kings have played the preseason game at the MGM Grand every season since 1997 - minus the two lockout seasons - which is usually played against the Colorado Avalanche.

The game has become somewhat of an annual tradition, and though this season will mark the last of its current three-year deal, organizers are hopeful the series will continue.

"Our goal and desire would be to have that tradition live on in some capacity," AEG Sports COO Kelly Cheeseman told LAKingsInsider.com's Jon Rosen.

AEG Live and MGM Grand hold ownership over the new arena currently being built on the Vegas Strip that is expected to be the home of a potential NHL franchise, suggesting it would host future Frozen Fury games, which could pose as a conflict of interest.

Despite the optimism to keep the series, there are currently no talks or announcements expected on any new deals. A long-term deal on the series might have to wait until an expansion decision is made.
