Oilers trade Nilsson to Blues
The St. Louis Blues solidified their situation in the crease Saturday, completing a trade with the Edmonton Oilers.
The Blues landed goaltender Anders Nilsson in exchange for goaltender Niklas Lundstrom and a fifth-round draft pick in 2016.
TSN's Bob McKenzie reported late Friday night that the deal was believed to have been made.
Nilsson, whose rights the Oilers acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks last summer, has a 10-12-2 record for Edmonton and a .901 save percentage. His departure won't come as much of a shock for Oilers fans, as the 25-year-old had been the subject of trade rumors and was made a backup for Friday's loss in Anaheim after originally being announced as the starter.
With Brian Elliott nursing a lower-body injury for at least the next four weeks, Nilsson - who'll report to the AHL - will provide some insurance behind Jake Allen in St. Louis.
The Blues, who are in third place in the Central Division, enter the weekend in a comfortable playoff position at 35-19-9 - three points behind the division-leading Dallas Stars.
Lundstrom, 23, was a fifth-round pick of the Blues in the 2011 draft. He has a .929 save percentage in 13 ECHL games this season, and a .901 save percentage in four games in the AHL.
