Defending champion Daniel Chopra returns to The Plantation Course at Kapalua this week as the season-opening Mercedes Championship takes center stage in Hawaii. Can he become the seventh player in tournament history to successfully retain his title?

INTEL: Both players could be fixtures at this champions-only tourney for many years to come. After several close-calls, Villegas won the last two events of the 2008 season while Kim recorded eight Top 10s in 22 events on his way to fourth place in the FedEx Cup standings. |

2009/01/05: Thirteen years after winning the state's high school championship, Parker McLachlin will make his first appearance at the champions-only Mercedes Championship in Hawaii. The Honolulu native qualified for the event with his maiden tour victory last year at the Reno-Tahoe Open, becoming only the fourth Hawaii native to win on tour. |
