Report: Gonzalo Higuain signs contract with Juventus until 2020
Gonzalo Higuain might not be the most fashionable No. 9 on the planet, but Juventus reportedly doesn't care.
According to Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sport and the Guardian, Higuain signed a contract with Juventus until 2020 that will see the Argentinian forward earn €7.5 million per season. The 28-year-old's release clause of €94 million will apparently be activated "soon," which will bring an end to his time at Napoli.
Only five days ago, Juventus' CEO and general manager, Giuseppe Marotta, said there were no negotiations over Higuain, and that the Old Lady wouldn't pay the South American's €94-million release clause. Meanwhile, Massimiliano Allegri declined to confirm the signing after the club's defeat on penalty kicks to Melbourne Victory on Saturday in the International Champions Cup.
Asked about Higuain, Allegri replied, according to Dan Kilpatrick of ESPN FC: "As I said before, I'm not going to talk about transfer news. We just had a game. I'm not sure what's happened in the transfer market during the last few days, so once again I prefer to have questions during the game."
Higuain tallied 36 goals and two assists through 35 Serie A appearances last season, and subsequently scored another four goals at the Copa America Centenario, where Argentina's trophy drought failed to end as La Albiceleste fell to Chile on penalties in the final.
