41-year-old Kasai wins silver in ski jumping large hill final

Noriaki Kasai did the unthinkable on Saturday, winning Olympic medals 20-years apart.

The 41-year-old first competed in the Olympics at Albertville in 1992. He won silver in Lillehammer two years later in the team large hill event.

He can add another silver medal to his trophy cabinet after finishing second in the individual large hill final. Poland's Kamil Stoch took home the gold.

But it was Kasai, the eccentric veteran seen as a legend by his fellow competitors, who stole the show.

"All these years I was disappointed by the Olympic Games," he said, via the Houston Chronicle. "Today I just had to do it. I wanted gold but you know it is what it is."

Here is what it is: Kasai became the oldest Olympic medalist in ski jumping history.

Stoch was full of praise for the Japanese star. "I congratulate him that he finally gets what he wanted because Kasai is a great man and a great challenger. It's a great pleasure to be next to him right now."

Kasai is a popular guy in Sochi, as evidenced by a photo taken by American ski jumper Jessica Jerome.
